Side Perches

It’s time for another production at school and today I went to start working on some of the more tedious jobs for the production. We had people hanging blacks and others were attaching the walls to the set. It’s all coming together and the next big thing (as far as the set is concerned) is the painting.

We also started doing some lights. My minions started out by cleaning some 2Ks but then it moved to some dangerous stuff. We had to attach some 22/40’s to the side perches. As they are the most dangerous things to get access to we came up with a way of making the ladder taller. We set up the ladder on top of 2 blocks, however it wasn’t tall enough for Belly’s liking so we had to set up the safety harness. It was probably the first time that we had ever attached lights on the sides in a safe way. It actually made life allot easier because I didn’t have to hold on to everything with one hand, (even though i still did most of the time :P ) I’d like to thank James for the pic’s

I Finished It

I have finally finished Harry Potter. I had spent the entire day warning people not to ruin the ending for me. Some tried but I was to quick for them. I would cover my ears and start humming the tune to “happy tree friends”. Don’t ask me why it was that tune. Anyway the book was pretty good.

In other news… the new projector arrived for Aikman hall. It s possibly the coolest data projector I have ever seen. You can send images to it through the school network, including the wireless. You can wander around the building with a laptop and it will still project the image. There is also a feature to let you turn it off and on with your computer and you can have a custom logo on the screen which appears when there is no signal being sent to it.

The End Is Near

Holy crap! School is seriously, almost over!

Today it was back to school to resume learning and every class I had they reminded us of how much time is actually left until we leave forever. The teachers also made a point of making sure we knew how busy this term is going to be. There are many SAC’s coming up and in four weeks I have to do some acting for theatre studies. Being in a class of good actors which is everyone besides me, I was sitting there reading my script and trying to work out how to perform the stupid thing. I also wished I hadn’t asked people if they knew their lines, some people knew all of them and all the others said they knew most of them. I could only remember the first line. How am I supposed to “act” when I don’t know what I’m supposed to be saying. All of this preparation seems so unnecessary. Can’t I just stand there and read the lines.

So anyway school is almost over which means exams will follow. it’s a scary thought that 14 years of education at Haileybury all ends once I am handed a piece of paper and a tie.

Orchestra Pit

Today I headed down to the school again, (I can’t seem to stay away). I was there to do some work for Fame and that I did. There were a few things that could have been done: rip up all the masking tape on the ground, mark out the positions of the set so we can tell if its moving, something with the blacks or fresnels or empty the orchestra pit. I chose to mark out the set with masking tape (even though I was supposed to be remove all the masking tape) and I also emptied the orchestra pit. Now you may think that that doesn’t sound hard, well your wrong. As the school has turned every bit of storage into classrooms and offices all of the crap from the hall, drama, music and some stuff from maintenance departments has ended up down there. There were lots of music stands that are broken, broken chairs, wooden steps, wooden boxes, a raised platform that used to live in the Barney Allen Center, six trollies used for sports presentation nights, spare parts for the chairs in the hall and a role of yellow carpet that was too big for me to put anywhere. Other than the carpet I found a home for everything else. The music stands are neatly placed in the corner of the music room (which is where they should be), all the wooden boxes, steps, tables and the bike are now in the Drama department, the seats I put in D3 and the trollies are in the loading dock (there was no where else to put them). Anyway all I need now is to find a place for the carpet and it’s done.
