Final Term 1….Ever!

The past few days has been very busy at school. There have been music performances, major assemblies, the dreaded sports presentation night and the year 12 formal.

Tuesday night was one of the music department’s major events. Concerto Night. The music was performed very well but I honestly wasn’t listing that much as I was sitting with Dale and talking to him he entire time, a bit to loud too as the person three rows away turned and gave us an evil look.

Wednesday I found out that the final assembly for term one was going to have a band playing so I decided that they should have some goodish lighting. I stayed back late after school to get it ready for Thursday morning as there was no other time for me to do it. All I did was have par-cans as back light with yellow, blue, green and red gels but they were happy to have it.

Also on Thursday was Dancing with the staff. The prefects organized this event in a rather inconvenient way. I had different people asking me about lighting for it and I told them all that they couldn’t have anything fancy as the Sports Presentation night was that evening but that obviously wasn’t understood so the work I did for the band during assembly was going to be useful again. BUT… The middle curtain was closed and having the lights behind that curtain doesn’t work well. Also I was told about a DVD that they wanted to play during the event, the day of the event, even though they had known they wanted to use the DVD for a while they never found time to tell me during all the times I was asked about lights. Over all it was a good show with teachers looking stupid.

Now to Sports Presentation Night. It was, as always, the most boring event that anyone could ever go to. However the music that was used for the precessional was rather funny as it was very dramatic banging and then it does that fanfare that the news used to use (I forget the name of the song).

And finally the Year 12 formal. It was a good night and everyone had fun (well almost everyone). The best part of the evening was the limo. Thanks must go to Liam for organizing it. It was fantastic.

Bring Back Berry

It’s hard to believe that one of the schools best teachers is actually gone. Mr Berry was an outstanding teacher who throughout his time at Haileybury supported me and my brother and every other student at the school. I found out last night and didn’t believe it until I had it confirmed this morning. I have no definite answer as to why he left but I do have an inkling. Naturally the school won’t tell the students why, but I know that allot of the teachers want to tell us and also feel sad about him leaving. I have also noticed that no one wants to remove my sign on the notice board “bring Back Berry”. I hope that he will be back to see the school play or even sooner.

Political Correctness Is Going To Go Too Far…

Apparently it is now politically incorrect to be using AD (Anno Domini) and BC (Before Christ). Who was it who cared enough to have this changed to CE (Common Era) and BCE (before Common Era). Aren’t there better things to be changing in the world other than 2 letters that are put after dates in History books. All those books are now giving people the wrong information (GASP!) The people who forced the change could have used their time better on something more important such as global warming. To me that seems like a more important issue than BC/AD not being politically correct.

And another thing…Now I’m not really a religious person but I do feel that everyone has the right to practice their religion (as long as it doesn’t involve some sort of human and to an extent an animal sacrifice. Thats where I draw the line). However I don’t feel that anyones religion should be suppressed. This political correctness is going to go too far one day. One day they will probably make it politically incorrect to have a Christmas tree set up in the city or in shopping centers, remove Santa from these places as well and not allow the sale of easter eggs at Safeway or coles and what about hot cross buns hmmm? These will all have to be removed because some people don’t believe in these things. Christmas will soon become one of the most boring times of the year. All there will be to hang is Grey sheets that say “Happy”. You can’t have “Happy Holidays” because not everyone has holidays at this time of the year. Some people are still working at 7/11. You probably wouldn’t even be aloud to use “Happy”. Some people aren’t Happy. Where Will it end?

SACs and Year 10 Play

today was once again SAC time. I had an English SAC on issues. I think I did alright, could have done better. The 3rd artical that we had to analyse was crap. It was an editorial and all they do in those articles is state the facts, how are you supposed to analyse how telling people what happened in a non biased way effect the reader? rhetorical question :)

I now have a theatre studies SAC to be working on which will be difficult as Belly seems to be explaining things in a complicated way. either that or I’m just too tired to pay attention, just like Sociology which i had a practice SAC in today which I know i did really badly in. Also back to theatre studies I plan to have the first draft of the lighting rig done by Tuesday otherwise it won’t get done until the week of the production.

On the topic of lighting, the year 10 play is underway. This year they are doing ‘Hating Alison Ashley’. James and I have been working on the lighting rig during our spare time and today we rolled out the floor, they are using the white floor which is really bad as the floor has so many marks on it and some of it has rust stains on it. How plastic gets rust I’ll never no, so Belly has just said to paint it white.

The End!

No News From Luke

Well Luke doesn’t seem to be updating his blog so I, Matt am doing it for him. Unfortunately I have no idea what Luke did over the weekend, and his week was pretty boring (from my perspective) although he did help set up the microphones for that quadrangle concert we had. He also did pretty bad in one of the maths tests/assignments and apart from that I have no idea what he has been up to.
