Yesterday I spent the day rigging the lights for …

Yesterday I spent the day rigging the lights for the school play. About 80% is done. It still has to be focused properly and then programmed but we seem to be getting everything done rather quickly. Yesterday was pretty good because of the amount of work we got done but it was annoying having people yelling out James and my name all time….. “Luke what s the next light?’….”James what gel is needed in this Fresnel?…..”Luke can we have an extension cable”……..”Luke why isn’t this light working?”……..”Luke why can’t I get the desk to bring up the lights?” “because u have the master faders down stupid”

After all that I had to go home and get ready for work at the video store where I was so bored because there was no customers I decided to make a tower out of the security locks they put on the cases so that the disks don’t get stolen.

Repairs

Today was the first day of tech work for the school play. I rocked up around 12:00 and went to lunch :) After a healthy Hungary Jacks meal we went back to school to start painting the set. There wasn’t much to do with the set so AB and I started to organise the lights but found that we didn’t have enough working profiles so we decided to repair some of them. We only got one repaired because of the lack of parts, so we now have 5 profiles out of a possible 12.

Concerto Night

Last night was the concerto night at school where they show off all the musical groups like the school orchestra. As part of a school assignment I had to do a recording which is easy but I was also operating the lights for show so I spent the whole day running between the lighting equipment and the sound equipment to get it ready for tonight which is exhausting. I also got a chance to fix the intercom system through out the building. On some of the phones the call buttons had been pushed in and wouldn’t come out so that meant that when you called any one of the phones it would call all the other ones in the building. But now it works perfectly.

They should start paying me

Today was the last day of term which meant that it was the last chance to get the work ready that needs to be done for the holiday rehearsals for R&J. The day started with a big school assembly which was easy to have the lights and sound ready for but then afterwards I spent ½ the day laying out the black floor on the stage which is annoying because it ways a tone and is kept I n this tiny crawl space under the stage which has water all over the floor because the air-conditioning is leaking. Then spent 2ish hours bringing the trusses for the set over to the hall from the storage container, which is about 300m away. And to finish the day I had another assembly to look after. So I didn’t have to go to any classes today which was good but it then means that I am paying school fees to do a hole days work and not actually do anything like math or English. They should just give me a job there!

R&J

The other day while James P, Al and I were working out the crew list for the school play Romeo and Juliet it worked out that I will get to run the lighting desk for the play which will be good. This will be the 3rd actual play that I get to operate lights for and its also the most important one so I hope everything goes well.

Unman Witering and Zigo

To night was the night for the year 10 play (called Unman, Witering and Zigo). After spending the last week or so working on the lights for the play it all payed off. I executed every Q perfectly. I even had the director and other staff members comment on how good the lights were. Anyway enough about going on how good i am……. The actors still have to learn to stand on the light. Well most were good except for in cretin scenes when there was just a single spot on them and they stood around the edge of the light and not in it.
